AS Handgrade is a return to traditional shoe making and involves a tremendous amount of hand work.
The shoes have leather stiffeners, the leather is from the finest calf and only cut from the best area of the skin, we cut a maximum of two pairs per skin the rest is discarded.
The soles are oak bark and have a fiddleback waist which built by hand and is hand painted. There is also a lot of hand work involved in the edges and soles.
The shoes are lasted using a bed laster,a very old fashioned machine, the only other shoe makers I know of that have and use this are EG and GG.
They are a expensive shoe, we admit. However we feel that they are value for money and that the quality is apparent.
Ultimately, the customer will decide if we are correct!
Thank you for the interest in our company.
Kindest regards,
Chay Cooper
G&G now have their own factory. Previously we made their shoes for them. The popular belief is that they rented space from us and used their own workers. Actually they did not, we made the shoes.
Alfred Sargent Handgrade is dus bijzonder vergelijkbaar met G&G.
