Ik heb in mijn zoektocht toevallig informatie ontdekt die niet overeenkomt met het (marketing)verhaal van SirMax.
Hij legde mij uit dat bij EG, in tegenstelling tot C&J, de stukken leer die gebruikt worden voor één paar schoenen allemaal afkomstig zijn van de beste stukken leer uit een groot stuk leer. Leer van mindere kwaliteit wordt niet gebruikt en uiteindelijk weggegooid. Mooi verhaal, je moet immers het prijsverschil kunnen rechtvaardigen!
Manton, die uitgrebreide informatie heeft over de werkwijze van de verschillende merken, zegt echter:
"In the first post I said that Edward Green can get three or four pairs of shoes out of a single skin. And that is how most of the companies operate.
But not Lobb. They get only ONE pair of shoes out of each skin -- by choice. That way they are able to avoid every trace of growth, and use only the very best parts of the skin. Obviously, such wastage adds substantially to the cost of each pair of shoes, but then Lobb is going after a well-heeled clientele. So to speak."
