COMMON MISBELIEF N°3 –Suede calf and water are not compatible.
The idea that suede and water are not compatible is well fixed in people’s minds… but it is not based on actual fact! Moreover, suede resists water even better than standard calf leather.
It is possible to shampoo suede with water and household soap, either to remove stains - depending on the nature of the stain - or to revive the brightness of the suede. The most important point is to use shoetrees during and after washing the shoes and to dry them away from a source of high heat. Naturally, you should avoid wetting the inside or lining of the shoes.
The suede Crockett & Jones uses, as in the case of the iconic CHUKKA boots, undergoes a protective treatment before leaving the factory. Nevertheless, it is necessary to waterproof the skin regularly in order to maintain its beauty.
Finally, for those who remain unconvinced after reading this article… rubber ‘galoshes’ can be worn in rainy weather! These are available in our Parisian shops only.
