James Bond continues to celebrate 50 years in action yesterday by auctioning off memorabilia from the celebrated films courtesy Christie's in London. Highlights include the Aston Martin DBS used in Quantum of Solace, a wool Tom Ford suit worn by Craig in the latest film, Skyfall, and even those swim trunks from Casino Royale found their way to the block. Proceeds from the sales go to several charities, including UNICEF. One of the biggest surprises of the sale was the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean worn by Craig in Skyfall, which sold for £157,250 ($253,801), all of which will be going to ORBIS International.The Seamaster PO worn by Craig in Skyfall differs from the one available to you at boutiques in that the case is made of titanium, and of course that it was used in the action scenes of the new Bond film. Inside is the same coaxial 8500 movement found in your off-the-shelf PO. The pre-auction estimate for the lot? $9,660 to $12,880 – a little more than the watch's $6,200 MSRP. We'll call that a bit conservative given the hammer price north of a quarter million bucks.The watch's new owner can sleep well, knowing that the proceeds are going to a great home in ORBIS International, an international non-profit non-government organization that is dedicated to saving sight.
