Gisteren kreeg ik weer een lading Japanse stijlgidsen binnen. Helaas veel meer tekst dan plaatjes   , maar wel een paar typische Japanse detail-afbeeldingen:

Er zit ook een boekje tussen waarin allerlei pakken van top tot teen opgemeten en doorgerekend worden



UIteraard moeten jasjes ook 'gerankt' worden

For those who are not within stone's throw from a Berluti store --- taken from Berluti's booklet. I try to scan those that are not 'famous' Berluti like the wholecut court shoes that you so often see.

The following pictures are taken from the regular "Men's Ex" magazine of December 2004.  It usually features tons of suit porn, but this issue deals with black shoes in particular, so here you are.







Bottom left corner is our friend Mr. Martini from the Kiton Store in New York (formerly from Borrelli store). I don't know if he knows he's in the magazine.









I know it's really hard to see the shoes at the bottom, but they are: (Left to right on the bottom row) Bonora, John Lobb Matta II, Stefano Bemer.






This is also quite hard to see, but the middle shoe on the top row is Hanry Maxell's.

The following pictures are taken from LAST, volume 4. There are other topics in this issue besides shoes too. (My Volume 3 is will Koji ... so I can't post any scans.)

It surprising to me how many times out of ten the Japanese get things right. They came over to Europe a few years ago and bought up all the vintage cloth they could find. And they are about as keen about bespoke and dressing in general as any nation in the world. Japan is probably the number one market for bespoke in the world today from all reports.

They even got this one right. The 32 last may not be the most comfortable for all feet, but it has always been considered, by collectors on this side of the Atlantic, as being "the" last for the English country shoe and most notably the Dover by EG. The 32 is very much the round toe cousin of the soft squared great 88 and they have similar fitting characteristics.



The trick in ordering a 32, like the 88, is to go up a 1/2 size in length and down a width. The extra length will help wearers avoid the more narrow, shallow toe box of this last and it will give the shoe a bit more allure.

A country shoe should have a round toe. If one does not fit the 32 well, the second choice would be the 202 on a narrow last (a C if possible) or the 82.
