Gisteren een paar laten aanmeten door Philip Car persoonlijk bij Jacob. Model 522B op de Riva leest in zwart. Deze: http://111083.tumblr.com/post/46340531680/ethandesu-saint-crispins-new-arrivals-522b

Ik heb blijkbaar een iets verhoogde wreef dus hij maakt een customized last met iets meer ruimte op de wreef.

In het bruin is dit model overigens ook erg fraai:



Opvallend dat het model 522 standaard blijkbaar op de chiseled last wordt geleverd en de 522b op de classic last, wat dan weer een geheel andere aanblik geeft dan de riva last.

Ik wilde eerst gewoon zwart, je moet ergens mee beginnen

Chiseled vind ik te heftig, heb getwijfeld over classic maar die is een tikje saai. Dus de Riva is perfect denk ik. Alleen nog even geduld, begin oktober klaar.

Duidelijk, mijn eerste Saint Crispin's is eveneens zwart (model 104 op classic last) overigens is de getoonde leest de 'saaie' classic last
en deze past juist mijn voet het best (lijkt op de JL7000) de chiseled last (lijkt meer op de JL8000)

De riva last lijkt er een beetje tussenin te zitten; ben benieuwd naar het eindresultaat.

Op de foto is inderdaad de classic, ook op de foto die ik postte. Ik weet dus niet helemaal hoe de schoenen er op de Riva uit zullen zien (hij had dit model niet op Riva bij zich) maar aangezien Philip zelf de Riva leest adviseerde zal het wel goedkomen

Het zal ongetwijfeld goedkomen; SC maakt prachtige schoenen met kennis van zaken.

Heeft hij overigens aangegeven waarom hij voor jou de riva last adviseerde?
Deze riva last wordt op de Seamless na, normaliter niet voor voor oxford's gebruikt; maar vooral voor monk- en chukka modellen.

Riva komt, zeker IRL, het dichtst bij de classic. Maar dan net iets slicker. Daarnaast is Bart van Jacob groot fan van de Riva, die hij exclusief mag voeren in Nederland.

Saint Crispin’s Classic Last vs Riva Last

Two of the main Saint Crispin’s lasts in comparison: Classic vs Riva. Both are elegant looking round-toe lasts which, depending on the perspective, are different or the same.

Seen from above, the outline of both the Classic and the Riva last is the same. The difference comes only in the side view, where the Riva last has a slight rise and then soft chisel towards the tip of the shoes.

Generally the Riva last is a very nice choice for plain toe shoes without any decoration, or wingtips without a toe-medallion. The rise and chisel makes these shoes look more interesting and lets the light play nicely with the curves.

The classic last is a good choice for decorated toes or captoe shoes. The softer curving of the classic last makes room for a toe-medallion or straight-cap where the curvier Riva last would interfere more with these decorations.

Any perceived difference in width between the two lasts in the pictures from the top view is due to the fact that the Riva last shoes are a slightly narrower width than the Classic last shoes to the left. In the same fit, they are identical.

Saint Crispin’s Model 104 Navy Wingtip

Colours in shoes are generally underrated even though there are many colours on option which are quite a bit more interesting than black and still leave you with shoe formal enough to cover all but the most formal of occasions with ease and style. This dark navy wingtip from Saint Crispin’s is a case in point. Be blue once in a while. You’ll love it!

The shark last is not one of Saint Crispin’s more common lasts, but on a light summer loafer like this unlined model in blue suede, it is a great choice, and the thin sole construction is the perfect match.

Saint Crispin’s Two-Eyelet Derby in Bordeaux

Strictly seen, a Derby shoe is more casual than an Oxford. This is true when comparing the same or at least similar designs. When a derby looks as clean and elegant as this Two-Eyelet version from Saint Crispin’s, there is many an Oxford that we would consider less formal and certainly less elegant.

In this case the customer went one further and Saint Crispin’s created a bespoke pattern of a V-cap for him.

You don’t always have to change all the details or even think about it, but it’s nice to know that you can.
