1 0 0 % C O R O Z OCorozo is a 100% natural vegetable material. Tagua, which is
the native name of "Corozo", is the nut of a 5 to 6 meters tall
palm tree (Phitelephas Macrocarpas) that grows throughout
the humid tropical forest of northwest South America.
C O R O Z O N U TThe Corozo nut is white colored and of hard consistency.
Because of its resemblance to ivory many know this material
also as Vegetable Ivory. At the end of the 19th century it began
to be used by Italian and German upscale apparel manufacturers
to produce buttons and crafts.
The characteristics of corozo do not end with their natural
attributes. In the practical world, corozo’s quality has surpassed
that of synthetic (plastic, polyester) and other natural materials
(black horn, mother of pearl) in several aspects:
Corozo is breakage resistant. It can endure very high/low
temperatures without burning, melting, or breaking. This feature,
qualifies corozo as an excellent candidate for garments that must
undergo dry cleaning as well as industrial washing and pressing.
Unlike other materials, Corozo can be dyed in any color,
giving designers the flexibility to mix and match colors
without constraints.
Our buttons maintain their original finish for decades.
The color and polish last many years due to the fact that
they penetrate the porous surface of the buttons. Our
product is not coated for coloring, therefore there is no
risk of color-peeling.
